Description
PBX is looking for a qualified Traffic Engineer to work with the Transportation team to assist with delivering projects in BC, Alberta, and Southwest Ontario.

About the Role
Working closely with other senior engineers, the Traffic Engineer will be a leading member of the Transportation team, with responsibility for the delivery of projects through planning, design, tender and construction. Primary responsibility will be in delivering Traffic Engineering projects, but may also include delivering transportation infrastructure design projects. Responsibilities shall include:
- Lead the preparation and review of signal timing calculations and simulations
- Lead the preparation and review of signal phasing and signal operations of varying complexity to serve all modes of travel including pedestrians and cyclists (time-separated bike signals, leading pedestrian and cyclist intervals, signalized right-turns, coordination, transit priority, etc.)
- Lead and review the preparation of traffic signals designs
- Review and preparation of design documentation and project deliverables, including reports, drawings, cost estimates, signal timing sheets, and construction specifications
- Perform and oversee commissioning services and site inspections
- Performing system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting (traffic controllers and other devices)
- Client liaison and project management
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff
- Preparing proposals, contract plans, specifications and estimates for tenders
- Assist with business development activities
Qualifications
Core Qualifications
The preferred and required skills of a successful candidate are listed below:
- Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Registered as P. Eng. with EGBC, APEGA, or PEO
- Experience with traffic simulation and modelling using Synchro
- Experience with traffic engineering and signal timing development and standards
- 4+ years of experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Eagerness to learn and a positive, professional attitude
- Strong technical writing skills (reports, memorandums, specifications)
- Experience working with other consultants and contractors
- Ability and interest to work as part of a team, coaching and educating team members to strengthen their capabilities and skill sets
- Strong computer skills including good working knowledge of the MS Office suite
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where demands and deadlines shift frequently
- Able to effectively deal with a high level of responsibility and demanding work schedule
Desirable Qualifications
Beyond the core skills, there are particular qualifications that will set you apart. The successful candidate will likely have most or all of the following qualifications:
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) designation
- Experience working on local municipalities, BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT), Alberta Transportation, or Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) projects
- Experience with exterior lighting systems design (roadways, pathways, parking lots etc) and Intelligent Transportation Systems are not mandatory, but are considered an asset.
- Experience with Traffic Controller programming and commissioning.
- Knowledge of the following areas are not mandatory, but are considered an asset to the position:
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with AGI
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data management systems
- Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code

Compensation
The range of compensation for this position is $85,000 to $150,000 base salary per annum. This salary range is provided specifically for compliance to provincial legislation. The actual salary will depend on the skills, experience, and capabilities of the successful candidate relative to the role and may or may not land within the range specified above.
