PBX is looking for a qualified Design Engineer to work with the Municipal Utilities and Industrial teams and other engineers in delivering projects in Ontario.

About the Role

Working closely with other engineers, the Design Engineer will be a key member of the Municipal Utilities and Industrial teams, with responsibility for project tasks in the following areas:
  • Perform client liaison and project management to support efficient and effective project delivery
  • Prepare construction-related contract documentation
  • Provide constructability reviews
  • Conduct site assessments and equipment condition assessments
  • Conduct site inspections, construction progress reviews, and field reviews
  • Prepare, track, review, and manage construction documentation (change orders, site instructions, shop drawings, quality management forms, test plans, requests for information, as-built drawings, etc.)
  • Oversee contractor quality control and testing activities
  • Preparation of calculations and simulations, including voltage drop, protection & coordination, arc flash, grounding, etc.
  • Preparation of design documentation, including drawings, cost estimates, reports, and construction specifications
  • Assisting with preparation of project proposals and project fees
  • Prepare specifications, reports, technical memos, and other project documentation and deliverables
  • Attend meetings
  • Performing system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Develop software
  • Preparation of designs for all types of industrial systems for a variety of industrial facility types including marine ports and terminals, transit facilities, and infrastructure such as bridges and tunnels, etc.
  • Project Management experience managing small to medium size projects
  • Responsible for producing design documentation and interfacing with clients with high level support from senior engineering staff
  • Manage teams and mentor junior staff, as and when directed
  • Assist with business development activities, as and when appropriate
  • Travel to site locations as required

Qualifications

Core Qualifications

The preferred and required skills of a successful candidate are listed below:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university, or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology program or equivalent from a recognized technical institute.
  • Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as an EIT or P.Eng.
  • At least 5-7 years experience in electrical power design and an engineering consulting environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively deal with a high level of responsibility
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated effective project management experience
  • Experience managing client relationships
  • Eagerness to learn and a positive, professional attitude
  • Able to effectively deal with a high level of responsibility and demanding work schedule
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and Ontario Amendments to the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Strong computer skills including good working knowledge of the MS Office suite
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where demands and deadlines shift frequently
  • A professional demeanor
  • Must be located in Windsor, ON

Desirable Qualifications

Beyond the core skills, there are particular qualifications that will set you apart. The successful candidate will likely have most or all of the following qualifications:
  • Experience with ETAP design software
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Genuine desire to make an impactful contribution to a place where you yourself can build a long-term career


Compensation

The range of compensation for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 base salary per annum. This salary range is provided specifically for compliance to provincial legislation. The actual salary will depend on the skills, experience, and capabilities of the successful candidate relative to the role and may or may not land within the range specified above.
